Emily Ratajkowski Was Arrested Today at a Protest
Along with hundreds more marching against the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh.
Earlier today, hundreds of protestors marched through Washington, DC as a public demonstration against the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh. Although the Trump administration has found “no corroboration” of sexual misconduct allegations against Kavanaugh, Democrats have voiced that the five-day inquiry was “incomplete” as it was limited by the White House, according to the BBC. It is expected that the Senate carry out an official procedural vote on the nominee this Friday.
At the protest, which commenced at the appeals court where Judge Kavanaugh currently presides, the march walked through Washington and finally climaxed with the arrest of 302. Among the detained were Amy Schumer alongside Emily Ratajkowski. Taking to Instagram, the model-slash-actress made the following statement:
“Today I was arrested protesting the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh, a man who has been accused by multiple women of sexual assault. Men who hurt women can no longer be placed in positions of power. Kavanaugh’s confirmation as a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States is a message to women in this country that they do not matter. I demand a government that acknowledges, respects and supports women as much as it does men.”
Rallying support for Christine Blasey Ford and legions of other sexual assault survivors, hundreds of women were heard chanting phrases such as, “Kavanaugh has got to go!” Signs were also held up by the likes of Ratajkowski with the words, “Respect female existence/Or expect our resistance.” Although the final verdict on Kavanaugh’s nomination is yet to be revealed, the country continues to wait with bated breath to see how the outcome will likely pave or obscure the way for women in the future. Stayed tuned here as we find out more.
