Nike Unveils the M2K Tekno and We're in Dad Shoe Heaven
A chunky women’s exclusive.
The chunky dad shoe is, without a doubt, the most sought-after silhouette at the moment. From the OG Nike Air Monarch IV to the newly introduced Umbro Bumpy, it seems as if every sportswear (and fashion) label is jumping on the trend. For its latest contribution to an already extensive roster of dad sneakers, Nike now unveils a forthcoming women’s only silhouette: the M2K Tekno.
The shoe was first seen in John Elliott’s Fall/Winter 2018 show at New York Fashion Week and has since become one of the most coveted sneakers on our radars. Bearing remarkable similarities to the Monarch – most evidently seen in the midsole – it’s clear that nostalgia was a significant source of inspiration for the design. In this new model dubbed the “Phantom” colorway, various tonal panels are overlaid to create an intricate layered effect. Swoosh branding is seen in varying sizes all across the side panel, which is constructed out of leather.
In contrast to the off-white upper, the distinct design of the midsole is cut through with soaring black and grey details extending from the outsole. The only other appearances of color on the shoe come from the vibrant orange plastic detailing at the heel. A color-matching logo is also seen on the insole.
The Nike M2K Tekno “Phantom” is slated to release on May 19, retailing for $100 USD at select stockists.
