Music Is Officially a Part of Instagram Stories

Launching today.

Instagram has been rolling out numerous newly designed features within the past month. Recently the social media platform debuted IGTV and earlier this month, the app added a shopping feature. Have you ever wanted your favorite song of-the-moment playing with no interruption as you’re out with friends or enjoying a moment? Now, music will officially be integrated into users’ Stories.

First, when users tap to add a sticker to a photo or video, a music icon will now appear. By tapping on the icon, a library of songs will become searchable. Moods, genres and trending tracks will be available. After users tap the play button, a preview of the track will play. Once the specific song is selected, you can fast-forward and rewind to get to the part of the song that you’d like to play.

Before capturing a video, users also have the ability to choose a song. After you open the camera, simply swipe to the new “Music” option beneath the record button. Search for the specific track, choose the part you’d like and record a video while the song plays.

The new feature means that as your followers and friends are viewing your story, the song will be playing simultaneously. Additionally, a sticker will appear showing the song title and the artist’s name.

The new “Music” sticker is now available as part of Instagram in select countries, while choosing a song before capturing a video is also available on iOS only. Android devices will gain access soon.
