Rico Nasty Is Officially a Gucci Girl
We caught up with the rapper to find out more about starring in the brand’s new “Primavera” campaign.
Rico Nasty has always been a Gucci girl at heart, but now it’s official. Attending Demna’s debut last season, the American rapper and singer has since taken her relationship with the brand to the next level, appearing in the brand new “Primavera” campaign. Celebrating the concept of rebirth and “the transformative power of love,” the campaign sees Rico starring alongside the likes of Kate Moss, Shawn Mendes and Alex Consani.
“The day I found out, I was so so happy and obviously honored,” Rico tells us about the process, explaining that it was her tried and tested glam team that worked with her behind the scenes. “I used my usual glam team, and it made me feel even more comfortable that they trusted us to create a look for the campaign,” the artist continued.
In celebration of Gucci’s “Primavera” release day, we caught up with the artist to find out more about the story behind her relationship with the brand, her earliest Gucci memories and plans for the rest of 2026.
Read on for the full interview.
Over the years, you’ve done it all. From making music and acting to entering the worlds of fashion and beauty. What’s been the most fulfilling?
The most fulfilling part has been that I always felt that these things would happen for me; I just didn’t know when or how. I’m happy to simply exist.
Earlier this year, you attended Demna’s show for Gucci during Milan Fashion Week. What was it like to be a part of that moment?
It was very surreal. I’ve been to fashion weeks before but not like that, hunny. From the plane to the car to the flowers and the gifts. It was amazing. 10/10. My favorite part was the fitting and seeing what Demna thought I would look best in.
You’ve now taken your relationship with the house to the next level, starring in the new Primavera campaign. What can you tell us about that process?
The process was exciting; I mean it’s GUCCI !!!!! The day I found out, I was so so happy and obviously honored. My favorite thing was them letting me keep my team. I used my usual glam team, and it made me feel even more comfortable that they trusted us to create a look for the campaign.
The campaign also stars the likes of Tom Brady and Alex Consani. What was it like to be on set with so many different creative disciplines? How did your different skill sets complement each other?
Alex Consani has been making me laugh for years online. She is so funny and fab. I met her in Milan at the Gucci dinner. We didn’t see each other on set for the campaign, but I know if we saw each other, we would have found something funny to chat about.
What are some of your earliest memories of Gucci?
My earliest memory of Gucci was when I was in Chicago in 2017. I was there visiting for a show, and I saw these Gucci frames in the window. The glasses cost damn near what I was getting paid, so I didn’t get them. About six months later, things had changed drastically for me. So I went to the Gucci store in my hometown and bought the glasses. It was my first purchase at a designer store. It was my first purchase over $500. And it was the first time in my life I bought something and didn’t feel any remorse because I could actually afford it.
You once said you don’t believe in dinosaurs… What’s something else that people would be surprised to learn about you?
People would be surprised to learn that I do believe in dinosaurs. But unfortunately, I love pissing people off even more. Sometimes I will say the sky is green. Doesn’t mean you have to believe me.
Now, to the music… Your last project was released earlier this year. What can you tell us about it?
My newest album Rx is my favorite thing that I’ve dropped. Feels like a breath of fresh air. I’ve been feeling really excited for the future lately. That’s always a good sign. But overall, that album is just a boost of confidence.
With track names like “Tia Tamera”, “iCarly” and “Hey Arnold”, it’s pretty clear that the 90s and early 2000s have had a huge influence on you as an artist. What do you love about that era of music and fashion? Why do you think we keep coming back to it?
My favorite part about that era of music and fashion is that there was so much expression. So many styles were emerging. It was the first time we had seen options within every genre of music: goth, punk, streetwear, video vixen fashion, high fashion, preppy. I think I come back to it to heal my inner child because watching those things as a kid really did shape my taste.
With that in mind, how would you describe your personal style?
I would describe it as expressive. I’ve worn so many things throughout my career. And I think the main thing that’s been consistent is the expression of it. Like it or love it. I’ve always worn whatever I thought looked the coolest.
Finally, with an album already released and a tour on the way. What’s next for you? What does the rest of 2026 hold?
When I get off tour, I’ll be entering Season 2 of Margo’s Got Money Troubles! Which is so exciting; I can’t wait to be back on set. I’m also working on new music. So next year I’m thinking some festivals and more touring :) Hopefully more fashion as well.
