EXCLUSIVE: A Backstage Look at Virgil Abloh's Louis Vuitton Men's SS19 Collection
Featuring monochromatic looks and eccentric handbags.
Virgil Abloh‘s Louis Vuitton Men’s Spring/Summer 2019 debut collection showcased at the Domaine du Palais Royal successfully wrapped up on Thursday, June 21. Critics and fans alike have been looking forward to the momentous presentation. Abloh fully took the fashion house by the reigns and presented a range filled with streetwear-inspired staples. Prior to the show, we received backstage access in which we were able to get an official look at clothing, footwear and accessories.
With Off-White™ as a guiding light paired with his tutelage at the College of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Abloh ultimately presented a cohesive collection featuring wearable trends. Notably, his distinct eye for well-cut leather accessories and vibrant colors was quite apparent throughout the entire range. Christine Centenera‘s input as a stylist and consultant also rang loudly in the monochromatic and color-blocked looks.
In the realm of accessories, the eccentric handbags and chest rigs took center stage. Among the slew of newly designed pieces, the barrel-inspired, long red leather carry-all and the yellow logo mini-bag stood out. Additionally, the sleek, all-white leather logo bag with a carry handle and tonal chain accents was an equally chic design. The collection also saw the official debut of Virgil’s first sneaker design for the fashion house, previously seen on A$AP Rocky via Instagram. The trainers include a white, grey and red makeup and “VUITTON” branding in black. In total, the backstage imagery paints a candid illustration of how Virgil’s streetwear inclinations proved to mesh well with Louis Vuitton’s timeless aesthetic.
