Ariana Grande's "7 Rings" Video Is Everything We Needed It to Be – and More
“Make big deposits, my gloss is poppin’.”
Ariana Grande has been teasing us about her new song, “7 Rings” by counting the days until its release for a full week. Finally, that day has arrived – the track is available for streaming and frankly, the video is everything we dreamed it would be.
On Twitter, Grande had suggested to fans that this song wasn’t about her short-lived in engagement to Pete Davidson but about an occasion when she went wild in Tiffany & Co. and bought 7 rings; one each for her and six friends. The track moulds itself on the classic song “My Favorite Things” from the 1965 hit musical, The Sound of Music, with of course the badass contemporary pop princess spin only Grande could add. Lyrics include “Breakfast at Tiffany’s and bottles of bubbles/Girls with tattoos who like getting in trouble/Lashes and diamonds, ATM machines/Buy myself all of my favorite things” with Ariana’s near-angelic vocals shining through, alongside a transition into rap toward the end of the song.
The stunning visuals are set in a neon pink all-girl house party that fuses elements of classic American culture with futuristic Japanese styling. Every element, from the lyrics and beat to the set and choreography is carefully considered; expect “7 Rings” to get just as much airplay as “thank u, next” in the lead-up to Grande’s headline performance at Coachella this year.
