Samsung Indulges Flip Phone Nostalgia With New Foldable Model
For those who want the Razr back.
Samsung unveiled the concept for a new foldable phone at its 2019 Developer Conference earlier today. Those who miss the Motorola Razr and T-Mobile Sidekick of yesteryear are in luck — Samsung’s upcoming model looks more like a traditional flip phone than a smartphone thanks to a foldable display that hinges into a compact square.
Samsung’s announcement arrives shortly after the release of the Galaxy Fold, the company’s first foldable smartphone that was heavily criticized for its fragile screen. Samsung is also working on One UI 2, a new operating system that aims to streamline the smartphone experience and optimize it for one-handed use.
Samsung’s mystery “flip phone” has yet to be named and details surrounding its release, pricing and hardware also remain unclear. The full keynote presentation from Samsung’s 2019 Developer Conference can be viewed on YouTube.
