Givenchy's Pre-Fall 2020 Collection Is Inspired by Greek Goddess Iris
Merging soft and strong.
Givenchy has unveiled its new Pre-Fall 2020 collection, designed by Creative Director Clare Waight Keller. The delicate and sculptural range is inspired by Iris, the Greek messenger goddess said to bridge the sea, sky and underworld. Iris also reigned over the world of flowers — in fact, her namesake was one of founder Hubert de Givenchy’s favorite blossoms.
Givenchy’s signature cocoon silhouettes appear in outerwear and dresses, while Keller’s hallmark use of lace is exemplified on ethereal full-length gowns. The iris itself is printed on a knit square-neck dress and tailored peplum, while a standout gown features statement shoulders mimicking the shape of iris petals. Suit-like dresses, one in a column silhouette and another with asymmetrical sleeves, are styled over trousers. Accessories include the brand’s ID93 handbag rendered with braided straps as well as the Antigona Soft, a less structured version of the original Antigona.
