Richardson Taps Japanese It-Girl Kozue Akimoto For Its Latest Collection
In celebration of her father, champion sumo wrestler Chiyonofuji Mitsugu.
Back in January, Richardson rolled out an outerwear collaboration alongside Olympia Le Tan. Now, the brand unveils its latest collection created with the estate of Japanese champion sumo wrestler Chiyonofuji Mitsugu. Modeled by his daughter Kozue Akimoto and son Go Akimoto, the range is made up of T-shirts and hoodies in black and white.
Mitsugu was well known for winning 31 tournament championships as he held sumo’s top rank for a ten-year period lasting from 1981 to 1991. He was also considered one of the greatest Yokozuna due to his small stature and aggressive nature.
Detailing on the pieces includes bold graphics emblazoned on the front and back of the designs. One pick, a long sleeve white tee comes with a vintage photograph in black and white paired with Richardson branding in black. This same selection features a red handprint on the back alongside Japanese symbols.
The Chiyonofuji Mitsugu x Richardson capsule collection is available at Richardson’s web store. Take a look at the campaign in the gallery above.
