Nike Debuts Its Rainbow-Inspired "BETRUE" Pride Month Collection
Featuring a reimagined Air Max 720 design.
Nike has debuted its entire “BETRUE” collection ahead of Pride Month. The lineup features four new designs including the Air Max 720, the Benassi JDI Slide, the Air Tailwind 79 and the Zoom Pegasus Turbo. Each silhouette features a reimagined version of the rainbow flag created in collaboration with the Gilbert Baker Estate. Baker, a political activist and designer originally created the flag in 1978.
The Nike Air Max 720 comes with a multi-colored flag as a gradient pattern on the sneaker’s mesh upper, while the Benassi JDI slides were created with a rainbow flag emblazoned across the top strap. The Air Tailwind 79 includes the flag on the heel tab. The entirety of this pair also features the tone lilac grey found on the toe box, the heel and the eyelet panels. The model is rounded out by a black leather Swoosh.
The last sneaker in the collection is the Zoom Pegasus Turbo, arriving with a mostly black upper. Contrasting detailing is made up of a rainbow stripe running down the sneaker. Additionally, this iteration comes with glitter around the lacing unit and ankle. The final footwear model in the lineup is a limited-edition Air Max 90 featuring with eight colorful Swooshes. Launching alongside the sneakers are two graphic white T-shirts, a silver reflective shoulder bag and a hoodie in white. All of these pieces feature a variation of Baker’s iconic flag, too.
Nike’s “BETRUE” Benassi JDI, Air Max 720 and Tailwind 79 will be available via the Nike web store and select stockists including END. on June 1. The Zoom Pegasus Turbo will receive a release on July 14.
