Yohji Yamamoto Y’s FW19 Pre-Collection Is an Embroidered Dream
The collaboration weaves old-world luxury with contemporary design.
For Fall Winter 2019, Y’s teamed up with Mumbai’s Shanagar to release an enchantingly ephemeral collection. Inspired by sight and touch, eyes and hands are embroidered into mischievous poses throughout. For its PINK label, the atelier also reinterpreted Fall/Winter 2000 Yohji Yamamoto Femme cocoon coats and blouses, seen later in the gallery.
Throughout the pieces, you notice Y’s signature minimalism scattered in every detail juxtaposed with Shanagar’s luxurious embroidery. Sleek dress silhouettes, ankle-grazing trousers and elegantly-draped dresses are spread throughout the collection — words like comfort, versatility and timeless style come to mind. On the PINK label side, fabrics that resemble hand-woven textures are contrasted with patterns that discreetly conceal the word “PINK” in Sanskrit.
Whether you’re a loyal Y’s fan or a recent convert, this collection is an excellent introduction to the design powerhouse’s aesthetic.
It will be available at the Causeway Bay Y’s boutiques and I.T soon. Scroll past our gallery to see the lookbook.
