Dinah Jane Breaks Down Her Inspirations and the Studio Process Behind New R&B Single "SZNS"
The singer also opens up about working with A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie.
Dinah Jane returns to unveil her newest single “SZNS” today featuring New York rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. The easygoing track is her first release after her eponymous 3-track drop earlier this year in April. You may remember the standout single “Heard It All Before” which is currently climbing the urban radio charts.
Dropping a few days after Cancer season has come to a close “SZNS” is definitely a riveting track (Dinah is actually a Cancer). Throughout the song, she flexes her soft vocals and gives a peek into the emotions that arise when you’re really in love with someone. In the very beginning of the single, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie jumps on the track driving home the point that even though time passes and the weather might switch up, it’s fine to be into one individual you’re stuck on.
As a whole, “SZNS” continues to build upon the sound that the songstress has been consistently carving out for herself. Her attention to details such as production and how it meshes with her voice is apparent with this release. The R&B inclinations are vivid thanks to the fact that the melody is catchy yet memorable at the same time.
To give you a bit of background on the track, we caught up with Dinah on what influenced it, what it was like recording it and more. Take a look at our exclusive interview with the singer below.

Epic Records
How does it feel to drop a new single right as summer has officially set in?
It feels so good. I feel like this is a record I can bump on the beach, kind of sets that tone especially. This kind of does feel like a summer song, it’s just a feel-good vibe.
Can you describe what the process was like in the studio for this single?
Creating the song was so much fun. It was just us vibing off of each other and it just became something so magical. We didn’t walk in saying we’re gonna come out with a smash, it was just us vibing off of topics and conversations of being in love. You know, sometimes when you’re in love with someone you kind of go through the motions and it’s not always going to be so pretty and sometimes you’ll fall but when you fall, you know you’ll spring back and fall back into each other’s arms and make it work.
How did you end up working with A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie for this track?
When I first created it, it was just me and a male demo singer at the time. I had already kind of set the tone for a duet because that’s what I wanted. And my team pitched the idea and they were all saying “you need to put A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie on this track, he would do so well” and he did. He did it so perfectly. He was speaking some hard facts, I really fell in love with his lyrics, and he kind of set the tone. One of my favorite lyrics is: “You’re not perfect but you’re just my type” and that just spoke so loudly to me and I was just like wow, he is being so real and so honest about how relationships usually are.
Can you share details on what you’ll be releasing in the near future, perhaps an album or EP?
I would say I’m not done yet, there are still more surprises to come. I can’t really confirm what exact project this is that’s coming up but I will feed my “Dinahsty” with a lot of surprises so stay tuned, stay at the edge of your seat because it’s going to be one hell of a ride.
What kind of sound can your fans look forward to for your upcoming releases?
I feel like I’ve already kind of set the tone for what direction I’m heading towards with the release of “Bottled Up” “Heard It All Before”, my bundle, and “SZNS” now, it lets you know where I’m heading and what sound you should be expecting.
