Target Delves into Fashion Sustainability During Hypebae Fall Formal
Featuring Sharifa Murdock, Hillary Taymour, Olivia Cheng and Marina Testino.
On September 5, HYPEBAE partnered with Target to host a sustainability-focused panel during our Fall Formal celebration, centered around emerging creatives who are advocating for change from within the fashion industry. Held at St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral Youth Center in New York — which was made over to look like a high school gym — the “Next Generation of Changemakers” panel welcomed moderator and co-owner of Liberty Fairs trade show, Sharifa Murdock along with sustainable designer Hillary Taymour of Collina Strada, Olivia Cheng of eco-conscious line Dauphinette and Marina Testino, an activist and advocate for sustainable fashion.
The discussion and audience Q&A covered topics such as greenwashing, circular design and fashion’s environmental impact. The group of outspoken creatives examined how the next generation of designers as well as big retailers can offer sustainable solutions to the industry. The collective also offered their insight into the battle to fix systemic industry challenges, the importance of transparency from brands and how education will serve as a key factor for the next wave of fashion designers.
After the panel concluded, part of the event space turned into a beauty bar inspired by a nostalgic girls’ bathroom, bedecked in lighted vanity mirrors, plush pink carpeting and ‘90s movie posters. A wide range of beauty products from Target, including shimmering eyeshadow and eyeliner, were stocked for guests to create their own unique beauty looks. The night concluded with a school dance-inspired party. Watch the full video above to see what went during our Fall Formal celebration.
