Drunk Elephant's New Fermented Sake Spray Is My Favorite Way to Refresh and Rebalance My Skin

A nutrient-dense formula boosted with sake extract, kombucha and more.

With Hong Kong having gone into its I’ve-lost-track-of-the-number lockdown this month, I’ve been spending more time at home. Although the weight of holiday blues has certainly not escaped me, I’ve been using this time to focus on self-care and recharging from the bustle of the last few months. For me, the language of self-care that speaks the most to me is indulging in lengthy skincare routines and since I am working from home on most days, there is no excuse to not go that extra mile when it comes to taking care of my skin health.

At the moment, my favorite daily product has been Drunk Elephant‘s Sweet Biome™ Fermented Sake Spray. A facial spray, you ask? That’s your big secret? Judge not. I have recently come to realize that facial sprays are a very underrated part of the skincare routine and that this is perhaps the greatest overlooked step on the beauty path to plump, dewy, healthy skin. Read on below to find out why this has become my latest essential.

WHAT IS IT: Drunk Elephant Sweet Biome™ Fermented Sake Spray

WHY IT’S WORTH THE HYPE: If you haven’t tried facial sprays in the past, now is honestly the perfect time. For those who are also currently working from home, there isn’t an excuse that you don’t have time, or the spray bottle doesn’t fit into your purse. Like most, I had never thought much about facial spray products – if I have a good moisturizer, why would I need an additional spray? Thankfully, I have seen the error in my ways and the answer to the previous question is: because you want healthy, balanced skin. That’s why.

Drunk Elephant’s Sweet Biome™ formulation is a blend of fermented sake extract, kombucha and hops that is immensely nutrient-dense and serves to restore, sooth and promote a balanced and healthy “acid mantle and microbiome,” which is basically the very makeup of your body. Additional boosters such as electrolytes (which includes coconut water), natural minerals, ceramides, vitamin F and essential amino acids help to reduce redness, promote healthy collagen production, and keep skin soft, flexible and moisturized. As with all other Drunk Elephant products, the Sake Spray is 100 percent free of essential oils, silicones and fragrances, and is also vegan and cruelty-free.

For me, one of the main reasons why I love using this product is because on top of the benefits that it has to promote a healthy complexion, the spray factor is exceptionally refreshing and gives me a little pick-me-up throughout the day. Since the formula itself is very hydrating – and the dry winter weather of late has certainly not done my skin any favors – the Sake Spray has kept my skin glowing even through the cold months. Come summer, I’m certain that this must-have will also be a godsend on hot, humid days. The spray itself is a very, very fine mist with a wide, even distribution – I place a large emphasis on this because there is nothing that is less impressive than a spray that emits large globules of product that drip limply down your face. In the manner of Sparky Polastri, “These aren’t facial sprays. This is a facial spray, and this is gold.”

WHERE YOU CAN FIND IT: Drunk Elephant’s Sweet Biome™ Fermented Sake Spray retails for $330 HKD ($42 USD) at stockists such as Sephora.
