Jil Sander Dabbles in Fringe and Florals With FW20 Collection
The latest from husband-and-wife design duo Lucie and Luke Meier.
Under the helm of Lucie and Luke Meier, minimalist favorite Jil Sander has unveiled its Fall/Winter 2020 collection, a sleek and feminine range of suiting, outerwear and ankle-grazing dresses, at Milan Fashion Week. Unsurprisingly, the collection features sculptural silhouettes and clean lines — but despite the tendency of minimalism to veer into the cold and impersonal, the collection is rich with intricate details.
Black and white fringe hangs from the neck of sheath-like dresses, adding movement and interest without being ostentatious. In a similar vein, strategic pleating, both gathered and engineered, provides texture on ballooning sleeves and full-length frocks. Though the majority of the collection is rendered in solid beige, navy and black, the Meiers play with print in floral forms — one tunic boasts painterly outlines of daffodils while a long white coat features tonal jacquard weaving of leafy shapes.
