Virgil Abloh Debuts New Collaboration With Mercedes-Benz

Take a look at “Project Geländewagen.”

Following a teaser back in July, Virgil Abloh has just revealed his anticipated collaboration with Mercedes-Benz. Dubbed “Project Geländewagen,” the designer has given the iconic G-Class a new makeover, celebrating its 40th birthday last year.

For the project, Abloh worked closely with Mercedes-Benz Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener to reimagine the car with the aim to drive luxury away from the traditional polished aesthetic, creating something more raw and natural. Arriving with a simple white exterior, the car features an interesting interior that showcases each of the vehicle’s signature elements. The belt is emblazoned with a “Abloh” and “Wagener” print, as a nod to the two creators, as well as an all-white logo at front. The car’s headlights have also been highlighted with an “X” graphic, adding an element of Virgil’s signature streetwear touch to the collaboration.

Take a look at the “Project Geländewagen” collaboration in the gallery above, and stay tuned as a replica of the design piece will be auctioned as part of Sotheby’s Contemporary Curated this year. Advanced bidding on the replica Virgil Abloh x Mercedes-Benz G-Class project will kick off starting September 14, 2020, with all proceeds going towards a charity with an arts-driven focus.
