Kim Jones Joins Fendi as Artistic Director for Womenswear

The designer will continue to lead Dior Men.

Following his tenure at Louis Vuitton, Kim Jones replaced Kris Van Assche for the creative director role at Dior Men in 2018. Now, the designer is venturing to womenswear as the new artistic director for Fendi.

Just like Raf Simons’ appointment for Prada, Jones will be working alongside Silvia Venturini Fendi for the Italian house’s haute couture, ready-to-wear and fur collections for women. The announcement arrives as a surprise, as Fendi did not officially announce Venturini Fendi as the heritage label’s lead designer after Karl Lagerfeld‘s death. The latest news brings much anticipation to the fashion industry, as Jones has created memorable moments in recent history through partnerships with names like Daniel Arsham, KAWS and Shawn Stussy.

“Fendi is delighted to welcome Kim Jones as Artistic Director of women’s collections. Silvia Venturini Fendi will continue as Artistic Director of accessories and menswear collections,” the announcement reads. “Kim Jones is a great talent and since joining, he has continuously proven his ability to adapt to the codes and heritage of the LVMH houses while revisiting them with great modernity and audacity,” LVMH’s chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault shared in a statement. “At Fendi, I am convinced that his vision and passion will highly contribute to the success of the women’s collections.” Venturini Fendi further welcomed the designer: “My warmest welcome to Kim, to whom I am bound by deep respect and friendship. I am looking forward to take the Fendi universe to the next level with him.”

Kim Jones’ first collection for Fendi will be revealed during Milan Fashion Week next February for the Fall/Winter 2021 season.
