Hanahana Beauty is celebrating its four-year anniversary with a special skincare and merchandise collection dubbed “4Ever Not Ashy,” a playful nod to the brand’s celebration of Black skin. Founded by Abena Boamah in 2017, Hanahana is a consciously clean beauty and wellness label that specializes in richly moisturizing body butters made from shea sourced directly from the Katariga Women’s Cooperative in Tamale, Ghana. Hanahana pays the shea producers it works with two times the standard fair trade rate.

Marking the brand’s milestone anniversary, Boamah designed a limited-edition mug and long-sleeve tee, created with Chicago-based printing shop Supply Locale, to release in tandem with its new shea butter scent, “Bamboo Coconut.”The moisturizer is formulated with cocoa butter, mango butter and oils including avocado, grapeseed and almond. The limited-edition blend is a sweet yet refreshing scent that, in the founder’s words, give “vacation vibes in a jar.”

“It’s wild that Hanahana Beauty is four years old,” Boamah reflects. “I feel so blessed. I started this company in my kitchen while teaching and in grad school, and now we have our own HQ and team. The 4Ever Not Ashy collection means so much to us as a team — it’s our first solo merch drop and new scent drop since 2018,” she explains, summing up the spirit of the brand: “Honestly, there’s no reason to be ashy with Hanahana around.”

Hanahana Beauty’s “4Ever Not Ashy” collection is available at the Hanahana Beauty website. 10 percent of all T-shirt purchases will benefit Hanahana Circle of Care, an initiative that improves the economic and environmental conditions of women working in the shea trade.
