Jil Sander x Birkenstock Design Collaborative Footwear for the Outdoors

Four styles of sandals and clogs.

Following its team-up with Rick Owens, Birkenstock has now joined forces with Jil Sander‘s Luke and Lucie Meier for four footwear styles. The collaborative project arrives as part of the fashion brand’s Jil Sander+ line, which takes inspiration from life outside of the city.

The line features updated iterations of Birkenstock’s three classic silhouettes, the Milano, Arizona and Berlin. The sandals come with enlarged outsoles and longer straps, while the upper is made using materials such as leather and suede in cream, olive and black hues. Taking the spotlight this time around is the Velan, a never-before-seen style resembling the Berlin with straps that wrap around the ankles.

“We have worn Birkenstocks for as long as we can remember. They are comfortable to wear, but also comforting,” Jil Sander’s two creative directors share on the team-up. “They have been with us in some remarkable places, from camping in the Canadian wilderness to sitting fireside in the Swiss Alps. However the quality and integrity of Birkenstock is what convinced us to work with them.”

Peep the new designs above. The sandals will launch on July 1 via the Jil Sander and Birkenstock 1774 websites, with further releases at select Jil Sander and Birkenstock stores as well as retailers scheduled for July 8.
