Disney Responds to Peter Dinklage's Criticism on 'Snow White' Live-Action Remake
The ‘Game of Thrones’ actor questions the film’s depiction of dwarfs.
With Disney pumping out movie after movie, a Snow White remake was inevitable, and with the forthcoming release of the live-action version of the classic film, Game of Thrones’ actor Peter Dinklage is not happy that the Disney princess and her dwarfs are making their way into present day.
After West Side Story‘s star Rachel Zegler was cast as the lead in Snow White, the Emmy-winning actor appeared on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast where he shared his thoughts, saying, “Literally no offence to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White — but you’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me. You’re progressive in one way, but then you’re still making that f-cking backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together? What the f-ck are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.”
Disney responded to Dinklage’s strong words, asserting that its team behind the live-action remake of Snow White plans to include the dwarfism community in the film’s production. In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, a representative stated, “To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community. We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period.”
