This Margiela Mini Bag Is About to Become Your New Favorite Accessory

Meet the new 5AC Baby.

John Galliano’s debut handbag collection for Maison Margiela was first unveiled on the Spring/Summer 2016 runway at Paris Fashion Week. The range included the 5AC silhouette, a model that has now been reimagined in a new baby size.

With a name derived from Internet ‘133t speak’ (an early tech language that encodes the French word ‘sac’), the design represents futuristic qualities and a potential move into the future for the brand.

For Fall/Winter 2022, the 5AC bag arrives in a new 13cm size, dubbed the 5AC Baby. Developed from grainy leather, the new bag features a crossbody strap, complete with the logo label at the front. Each metal rivet is covered in leather by hand, with subtle visible elements to create a clean exterior. The bag’s exposed edges are hand-painted in tone with the leather, with each one finished by the Maison’s “anonymity of the lining” concept.

The new 5AC Baby is available in five colorways of white, gray, pink, forest and black, with a starting price of £850 (approximately $953 USD.)

The Maison Margiela 5AC Baby is now available for purchase from the brand’s website. While you’re here, check out our roundup of this season’s hottest designer bags.
