Instagram To Start Testing NFTs This Week

Allowing select users to display their tokens on their profiles.

Instagram is expanding its platform to the world of NFTs by allowing non-fungible token creators and collectors to display their tokens on their profiles.

According to The VergeMeta CEO Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement yesterday, stating that he and his team will bring “similar functionality to Facebook soon.” In order to perfect this new feature, the platform plans to start small. Instagram head Adam Mosseri commented on the news via a video, saying: “I want to acknowledge upfront that NFTs and blockchain technologies and Web3 more broadly are all about distributing trust, distributing power. But Instagram is fundamentally a centralized platform, so there’s a tension there.”

TechCrunch was able to acquire information about which users are part of the test: @adambombsquad@bluethegreat, @bossbeautiesnft@c.syresmith@cynthiaerivo@garyvee@jenstark@justmaiko@maliha_z_art@misshattan@nopattern@oseanworld@paigebueckers@phiawilson@swopes and @yungjake. NFTs on the Ethereum and Polygon blockchains will be supported during this test run, while Solana and Flow will be available after, as per Meta spokesperson Christine Pai.

Stay tuned while we wait for more updates on Instagram’s new feature.
