Amber Rose Reveals How Kanye West Felt About Nicki Minaj's Legendary Verse on "Monster"
Ye wasn’t familiar with Minaj before collaborating on the 2010 track.
A little over a decade after Kanye West released the classic track “Monster” off My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Amber Rose shared how the rapper really felt about Nicki Minaj‘s iconic verse.
Rose started out by revealing she was responsible for bringing Minaj on the song, which also features Jay Z, Rick Ross and Bon Iver. “I put Nicki on ‘Monster,’” Rose said during a recent appearance on The Ringer’s Higher Learning podcast. “He didn’t know who Nicki was back then. I had Nicki pull up to the studio and I put her on ‘Monster.’ She was still coming up and I saw her in the studio and I was like, ‘Oh my god this bitch is f-cking talented as hell,’ and then I went back to Kanye and I was like, ‘You need to get this girl Nicki on ‘Monster,’ and he was like, ‘Who? What? No.’”
After finally agreeing to have Minaj record the track, Ye was so impressed, he even considered having her verse taken out because of how good it turned out to be. Rose added, “He said, ‘how the fuck did you bring in a bitch that killed me on my own song?’”
Rose has previously talked about Minaj’s contribution to “Monster” during a 2018 interview with Complex. “I believed in Nicki from the beginning,” Rose told the outlet at the time. “I was with Kanye at the time and I was like, ‘Kanye, you gotta give her a shot like she’s amazing.’ He tried it out and he put her on ‘Monster.’ He was like, ‘Damn, she f-ckin’ killed that shit.’”
