STAUD x New Balance Conclude Partnership With Surf-Inspired Range
Featuring two new colorways of the XC-72, as well as beach-ready apparel.
STAUD and New Balance, which have previously teamed up on the 327 and 57/40 as well as the 997 sneaker and activewear, are concluding their partnership with a fifth and final surf-inspired collection.
The collaboration celebrates STAUD’s roots in Southern California and serves as a nod to the surf scene of the ’80s and ’90s. STAUD’s co-founder and creative director Sarah Staud Staudinger commented in a press release, “For one of my first trips post-quarantine, I went to Costa Rica and absolutely fell in love with surfing. From the athleticism to the culture that surrounds the sport, it was a natural fit for the theme of this new collection.” She additionally shared with Hypebae: “For this drop of New Balance collaboration, it was about being active: challenging yourself and celebrating that — this case it was surfing for me. This collection is meant to complement that nostalgic feeling you get from activities — sun in your face, wind in your hair, and sand under your feet.”
Fusing the SoCal lifestyle with functionality, the collection features hits of bright reds, pinks and baby blues on workout tops, sweatshirts, a bag and more. Details include 3D-shaped pockets mimicking the shape of surf wax, as well as neoprene pieces inspired by wetsuits.
As for the STAUD x New Balance XC-72, the sneaker is offered in two colorways — a minimalist, tonal design with white and sail shades throughout, and a multicolored iteration. Both pairs are complete with a chunky outsole, while NB and STAUD’s logos are placed on the tongue.
Take a look at the full collection down below. The final collab will release globally on July 21 via STAUD and New Balance‘s web stores with prices ranging from $70 to $160 USD. The sneaker will retail for $150 USD and the bag for $195 USD.
