Feng Chen Wang Unveils Her FW22 Collection
Finding beauty in imperfection.
Chinese-born designer Feng Chen Wang navigates perfectionism and acceptance in uncertainty with her latest Fall/Winter 2022 collection. Finding solace in the never-ending act of improvement, Wang imbues each garment with a sense of fluidity.
“This season, I love the idea of embracing and finding beauty in our inter-connectedness, in nature, societies and our own selves. Perfectly incomplete. Imperfectly complete,” shares the designer in an exclusive press release.
Inspired by ancient Chinese painting scrolls and Renaissance polyptych paintings, the series of images mimic a flowing, continuous scroll. A starry pattern inspired by Fujian lacquerware found in Wang’s hometown covers jackets, shirts and shorts for an enchanting, psychedelic effect. Other pieces are carefully hand-dyed with black and yellow ochre, tapping into the season’s color palette.
Plant dyes make several appearances throughout the collection, demonstrating Wang’s commitment to sustainability. Versatility is also a priority as several garments can be worn multiple ways. Feng Chen Wang’s phoenix motif offers a symbol of luck as it appears alongside the brand logo, allowing the wearer to walk with more confidence along with their own journey.
