2 in 3 Women “Think They’re Too Ugly for Sex,” Study Says
A new study reveals heartbreaking findings.
Sex-positive dating app Pure dives into pleasure and self confidence ahead of Body Acceptance Week.
According to the app’s survey of 2,000 people in the U.S., “1 in 3 Americans give up on sex due to body insecurities,” the press release stated. The statistics gathered from women reveal that “2 in 3 are bailing on intimacy because they didn’t feel pretty enough.”
Body Acceptance Week, from October 23 to 27, promotes body positivity and liberation for all. Research shows that body dissatisfaction is the leading risk factor in developing an eating disorder, leading to the creation of Awareness Week. Unfortunately, the main risk also veers into the sex lives of many.
Although body issues affect of 94% of relationships, Pure’s research finds that 70% of respondents “have never backed out of having sex with a new partner after seeing them naked. Furthermore, people generally care less about their partner’s flaws. In fact, 94% wouldn’t even notice stretch marks, while 66% are not opposed to body hair.”
Despite this research, women are still depriving themselves of sex due to fear of being accepted. For those struggling, rest assured knowing that overall people would “rather date a self-confident partner, rather than one with a perfect body.”
