adidas Releases Self-Charging, Solar-Powered Headphones

Bringing new light to your performance.

adidas announces the latest innovation in the solar-powered tech industry, a pair of self-charging adidas RPT-02 SOL headphones powered by light. According to the sportswear label, the gadget is sweat and splash-proof and “can handle the sweat from your toughest workouts.”

In a bid to keep an eco-conscious mindset even during production, the headphones are made from 87% recycled plastics (consisting of post-consumer recycled PC-ABS and recycled nylon). The product was developed in partnership with Swedish solar technology innovators Exeger and features their groundbreaking light cell material PowerfoyleTM, which harvests energy from natural and artificial light and allows the headphones to charge on the go without cables.

Anders Olsson, Product Manager at Zound Industries, shared: “Light has always been a positive source of energy for people and now we can rely on it to power headphones. It’s important that we continue to develop best-in-class innovation and push the boundaries of wearable technology. Creating adidas RPT-02 SOL allows us to test those limits and keep the music going so that athletes can focus on their performance, without worrying about the battery running out.”

Priced at $230 USD, the new adidas RPT-02 SOL headphones are now to purchase from the brand’s website.
