Arsenal’s Coaching for Life Initiative Announces Gender Equity Achievement
Five years after its launch.
On International Women’s Day, Arsenal’s Coaching for Life initiative has announced it achieved gender equity, meaning there are now as many girls as boys on participating in the program.
“Coaching for Life has removed the barriers to girls participating in football activities through education and by providing opportunities for them to come together to play football with their friends, building self-worth and confidence,” states a press release. “Investment in female coaches has also helped to increase girls’ participation. Five years on, the number of girls participating has doubled and there are now as many girls taking part as there are boys.”
The Coaching for Life program has left a significant impact on participants. As a way to learn more about the positive mark the initiative has had on the youth, The Arsenal Foundation and Save the Children conducted an independent evaluation, which proved that “female participants tended to report improvements in terms of learning to better express themselves, speak out, and overcome their shyness and “male participants tended to report improvements in terms of learning to treat others with respect, kindness and less aggression,” among other things.
