Dove Vows to End Body Size Discrimination via Its "Campaign for Size Freedom"
Did you know a person can be denied healthcare due to the size of their body?
Dove announces its Campaign for Size Freedom, a partnership with the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance (NAAFA) and the Fat Legal Advocacy, Rights, and Education Project (FLARE Project), tao end body size discrimination.
Although 2 in 5 adults in the U.S. identify as having a larger body, fatphobia and body size biases riddle culture, especially for women of color. In fact, “weight discrimination affects at least 34 million people in the U.S.” while 78% of women report being discriminated against due to their body size. On the same note, 78% of people want laws that protect others from body size discrimination.
To curb the lack of protection for people with larger bodies, the Campaign for Size Freedom aims to “strengthen legal protections and shift cultural narratives about body size through education, advocacy and corporate social responsibility.” By partnering with the aforementioned organizations that already pioneer fat acceptance and legislature, as well as seven influencers and advocates, Dove will continue to push fat liberation and create initiatives against body size discrimination.
