Tania Marmolejo Presents "Elsewhere" at Palm Beach Modern and Contemporary Art Fair

Exploring subtropical landscapes and environmental controversies.

New York-based artist Tania Marmolejo Andersson is set to present her new series of works, Elsewhere, at Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary art fair this month.

Drawing inspiration from her Scandinavian and Caribbean heritage, Marmolejo’s new works feature vibrant protagonists amidst subtropical and maritime landscapes, depicted in a decidedly more “subtle and enigmatic” form than her previous pieces. Aiming to replicate the complex connection between nature and our states of mind, Elsewhere comprises seven large format works on canvas — each of which has been created specifically for the Miami showcase.

Offering a subtle evolution of the artist’s signature technique, the new works take cues from her usual influences of Expressionism and the Flemish Renaissance, but this time allow her characters to be altered by the world around them. Underneath, the works seek to express emotions of curiosity and self-questioning, tackling themes of civil rights, gender debates and political and environmental controversies.

Take a look at Marmolejo’s poignant works above, and head to the Palm Beach fair website to find out more.

In other art news, mixed media artist Shae Detar just released her first book.
