Grimes Will Split Half Her Royalties With Anyone Who Uses AI on Her Voice

“Feel free to use my voice without penalty,” she says.

While many artists are against the use of AI on their voices, Grimes is all for it. The Canadian musician took to social media to invite fans to use artificial intelligence, creating new music.

Grimes began by sharing a screenshot of an article about a recently-removed AI song that uses Drake and The Weeknd‘s voices. She then offered half her royalties if someone tries to do the same thing with her voice. “‘I’ll split 50% royalties on any successful AI-generated song that uses my voice. Same deal as I would with any artist I collab with,” she tweeted. “Feel free to use my voice without penalty. I have no label and no legal bindings.”

She continued, adding why she supports this kind of art. “I think it’s cool to be fused [with] a machine and I like the idea of open-sourcing all art and killing copyright,” she explained.

When asked about whether or not the person using an AI-generated version of her voice should give her credit as a featured artist, Grimes responded, “Sure — anything anyone wants. I’m just curious what even happens and interested in being a Guinea pig.”
