Lily-Rose Depp Says 'The Idol' Is Not Based on Her Life Growing Up
“That was certainly not mine.”
Although Lily-Rose Depp may be one of the world’s most famous nepo babies, that’s where the similarities between her and her character Jocelyn end as The Idol actor claims the show is not based on her life.
For those who don’t know, Lily-Rose is the daughter of actor Johnny Depp and French singer/model/actor Vanessa Paradis and while her own childhood may not have been the most relatable, the pouty star asserts that her parents tried to create a sense of normalcy.
“The backstory that we thought about a lot for Jocelyn is that she’s somebody who’s been working basically since she could talk,” Lily-Rose shares with Entertainment Weekly. “She was a child actress, she had a mother who was really pushy in that way and really kind of bred her to be this trained performer and that was her upbringing. That was certainly not mine.”
She jokes, “I mean, my parents definitely did their best to give my brother and I the most ‘normal’ childhood that we could have. Obviously, still not totally normal, but a sense of normalcy at least and a sense of childhood and freedom and play and everything. So our childhoods are quite different. Of course, experiencing this industry from a young age, there’s obviously pieces of that that help me understand maybe Jocelyn’s perspective a little bit better, but still, definitely coming from different places.”
While Lily-Rose left the limelight to her parents in her earlier years, she is now sitting firmly in its warm, yet sometimes, harsh glow as The Idol has already come under criticism for gratuitous sex and violence. That seems to be part of the Sam Levinson package.
