Brazil Shirts Are In, Here's Why

Is it just us or is everyone on the internet Brazilian lately? Brazil shirts are currently trending on TikTok, with some of our favorite celebrities repping them out of nowhere. We get it, Brazil is worth celebrating. Their soccer team alone is the only team to have played in every World Cup and holds the most wins out of any other country. While the trend might seem random, as a fellow Brazilian, I approve of this message and here’s why. 

The Brazilian jersey, for far too long, represented Jair Bolsonaro’s far-right movement. It became a staple for his problematic Trump-like followers. So, seeing our jersey and shirts all over the internet and not having them associated with him post-presidency feels incredibly good. Lula, who is Brazil’s current president, has made it a point to take back our colors, symbols and even anthem to what it needs to be. According to The Guardian, the president stated “We can’t be ashamed of wearing our green and yellow shirt, it doesn’t belong to one particular candidate. It doesn’t belong to one particular party. Green and yellow are the colors of 213 million citizens who love this country.”

With this statement, it’s hard to deny that the yellow and green is iconic, hot and in need of a comeback.
