grounds Continues to Defy Gravity With Its Upcoming FW23 Footwear Collection

The new season also heralds a second collaboration with Bernhard Willhelm.

Tokyo-based footwear brand, grounds, is set to launch its Fall/Winter 2023 collection of shoes and sneakers, featuring nine designs that push the boundaries of footwear aesthetics. Notably, the collection includes a second collaboration with designer Bernhard Willhelm on the signature JEWELRY shoe.

Inspired by the remote Faroe Islands, the collection merges urban luxury with untamed wilderness, striking a perfect balance between opposing elements. Standout pieces include hand-knitted boots, puffed ballet shoes and quilted bags, blending handcrafted luxury with grounds’ outstanding outsole technology.

Mikio Sakabe, Creative Director of grounds, shared: “The concept became an exploration of the merging of urban luxury and the complete wild, searching for the perfect balance of two drastically opposing components that equally coexist.” Bernhard Willhelm’s JEWELRY shoes draw inspiration from punk features like the mohawk, resulting in a unique combination of hairy and spiky threads, alongside puffy and flat areas.

grounds’ FW23 collection will debut in early September 2023, available at select U.S. retailers and online on the Japanese imprint’s website. Prices will range from approximately $350 to $1000 USD.

In other footwear news, a “Wheat”-flavored Nike ACG Air Moc iteration has surfaced.
