Singer Anitta on Embracing Her Explicitly Sexy Side

“I look at who I did and I’m like, “Oh, my Lord” / I used to be a h-e.”

From twerking across the stage to posing topless as Savage X Fenty‘s ambassador, Anitta isn’t hiding her sex-positive side. But according to the Brazilian musician, feeling embracing her sexy side was a journey within itself.

This post contains triggers and mentions of sexual a******.

“Larissa [her real name] is very private, very relaxed, very low key and very quiet,” she spoke of herself. “Anitta is the opposite: outspoken, exposing myself… I think it’s two completely different people and I used to struggle with that.”

For fans who love her hit single, “I Used To Be,” which references her hoe phase, Anitta’s shy side may come as a shock. “It [used to be] two sides of my brain fighting with each other,” she told People. “[Then,] I learned how to make them communicate.”

Coming from a background of poverty and sexual assault from a former partner she trusted, embracing her authentic self, dreams and family, have been her saving graces, she shared. “It’s a very simple, humble relationship and I love that about us. We are always together. They are the ones that make me feel like myself.”

Sending a message of hope to her fans, she spoke on making her dreams come true, despite fear and shame. “I [want fans to know] that they can do whatever they want, be whoever they want, and they should love themselves before any other person,”she says. “I’m a good example of that.”
