Willy Chavarria Offers A Soft Masculinity for SS24

Willy Chavaria delivers a romantic vision for menswear this Spring/Summer 2024 season as the New York-based designer married extravagantly tailored suits and evening wear with relaxed sportswear for New York Fashion Week. Dreamy genderless gowns sat comfortably alongside linen blazers and T-shirts, evoking a quietly confident sense of masculinity.

What: Willy Chavaria’s SS24 collection brings a sense of joy and playfulness to menswear, not otherwise seen. Infusing each piece with the brand’s heartfelt storytelling, the assortment of garments illicit a tender vision for masculine-leaning attire. Chavaria’s latest presentation also welcomes a partnership with Tequila Don Julio, integrating his Mexican heritage. The line pays homage to his roots with the inclusion of the Ranchero hat, inspired by Don Julio Gonzalez, the late founder of the tequlia brand. Guests were greeted with special flasks of the spirit as a parting gift.
Who: Both the crowd and cast boasted A-list rosters as YG and Bernie Martinez walked, while Julia Fox, Richie Shazam, Luca Sabbat, Future, Devin Hall, The Clermont Twins and Evan Mock were in attendance.

Saw: The SS24 is ripe with decidedly masculine silhouettes, providing supersized suits, arriving in softer colors like lilac, in tandem with Chavaria’s signature color palette of red and black. Sharp shouldered jackets are decorated with bouquets of red roses as well as the Ranchero hats for added gravitas. Sun-dyed rust blazers are unexpectedly paired casual basketball shorts, leaving the fanfare and drama to the collection’s evening wear. A crimson floor-sweeping gown complete with an oversized pussy bow instantly commands attention. The collection closed with an overflowing obsidian overcoat, offset with denim briefs.

Touch: The garments were crafted from linen, sequins, luxury Japanese fabrics and recycled materials from Recytex.
Hear: Speakers filled the room with very romantic, latin songs.
Taste: Willy Chavaria’s SS24 collection was an ode to hopeless romantics. Flower-adorned suiting and elegantly tailored evening wear demonstrated a softer side to menswear, while the inclusion of Ranchero hats captured the brand’s inherently adventurous spirit as well as speaking to its Latinoidad roots.
