Puppets & Puppets navigates the duality of womanhood in New York, embodying the necessary bravery it takes to ride the subway and walk the streets for its Spring/Summer 2024 collection. Creative director Carly Mark effortlessly infuses her two-year period of self-reflection and introspection for New York Fashion Week, delivering a collection that is as haunting as it is beautiful. While Mark’s personal experiences may be individual, they certainly resonate as the likes of Julia Fox, Moses Sumney and Richie Shazam were in attendance.

What: Puppets & Puppets SS24 collection explores what it’s like to be a woman in the city, capturing a spirit of fierceness and empowerment with bold patterns and dramatic silhouettes. Vintage paranormal photography also adds to the eerie vibe of the line, incorporating imagery of séances. Experimental tailoring elevates classic staples, nodding to the rebirth the wearer experiences with a wardrobe change.

Who: Puppets & Puppets’ support is clear as a rich and famous crowd gathered. “Disco Tits” singer Tove Lo joined Julia Fox, Richie Shazam, The Idol‘s Moses Sumney, Girls actor Jemima Kirke, Rebecca Black and Alana Hadid for the brand’s SS24 show.
Saw: Utilitarian uniform items are reinvented and reinvigorated as khakis are supersized and outfitted with matching oversized pockets. Generously spacious trapeze pants take up deserved space, while a paper bag dress dares catcallers. Elsewhere, a semi-sheer catsuit decorated with a collage of spooky photos draws eyes in, contrasting a purely elegant dress bathed in vibrant yellow florals. Mark pokes fun at our obsession with status symbols, wrapping ripe bananas in leather to substitute handbags.

Hear: Famous subway performer Jazz Ajilo brought his dancing stuffed animals to the SS24 runway show, providing a jazz performance of “Lady in Red” on the saxophone.
