Nothing Worked For My Oily Hair... Until I Tried This New Serum

Meet my new best friend, 4% Act + Acre’s Niacinamide Oily Scalp Serum.

If you struggle with oily hair or skin, you’re not alone. Although excess oil production can help the skin and hair stay healthy for longer, it can also cause conditions like acne, dandruff, clogged pores and even hair loss. Trust me, it’s not fun to deal with regularly. I’ve tried it all, from speciality conditioners to dry shampoo, but they’ve always left me a little disappointed. When I found out one of my favorite haircare brands, Act+Acre, finally launched a product to deal with this issue, I had to try it.

Founded by trichologist and celebrity hairstylist Helen Reavey, Act+Acre uses cold-pressed technology to pack powerful ingredients into its incredible products — this process allows for better penetration into the scalp and dermis. Its new 4% Niacinamide Oily Scalp Serum works by targeting the causes of excess oil production on the scalp to slow down the process and give you more days off from going through your wash routine.

I tried the product for six weeks to see if it would live up to the hype and I was pleasantly surprised, to say the least. Keep reading to find out more about this new revolutionary hair product.

Act + Acre Niacinamide Oily Scalp Serum: The Rundown

The basics: Niacinamide, fermented green tea and astragalus work in unison to decrease oil production by up to 60%

Price: $68 USD

Where to buy: Act + Acre’s website and Sephora

Best for: Those with an oily scalp and/or oily hair

IMO: A must-have to add to your haircare routine

Act + Acre Niacinamide Oily Scalp Serum: Why The Hype?

This serum prevents oil build-up before it starts, controlling the pH of the scalp over time. Its purpose is to extend the time between hair washing, giving those of us who have to hop in the shower to deal with this issue more often a bit of a break. On top of zero greasy residue, it’s easy to use and gives the scalp a fresh and clean feeling. This will also start to stabilize the microbiome on the head, allowing it to be less oily after continued use. The ingredients consist of niacinamide, a scalp sebum neutralizer, hyper-fermented green tea, which is an antioxidant that stops oil production in its tracks and bio-fermented astragalus, a type of legume that can reduce inflammation and help new hair follicles develop.

The brand’s fans (myself included) agree, with reviews on its website rating it close to perfect at a 4.9 out of five. The first-of-its-kind serum’s clinical ingredients can even be put on the face, helping to balance oil production there as well.

Act + Acre Niacinamide Oily Scalp Serum: How To Use

Using the serum is super simple and can easily be added to your post-shower care routine. On damp hair, you’ll want to apply a dropper’s worth of product on the left, middle and right sides of the head. After this, massage the product into the skin evenly for about a minute. You can follow up with your favorite haircare products.

The Final Verdict

I’m a convert to this oily hair serum, but I’m not surprised, since I use Act + Acre’s products for my curl routine. After a few weeks of use, I noticed a significant reduction in the oil production on my scalp. This serum was fairly easy to add to my hair care routine and didn’t leave a greasy residue, which is always a fear of mine when it comes to an additional step in my routine.  I can safely say that now I go an extra day without washing, and I’m excited to see what this product will continue to do for my hair.
