Beyoncé Reveals Battle With Scalp Psoriasis As Inspiration For Cécred Haircare Line

The singers journey with her hair has been deeply personal and Cécred.

It’s time to get in formation as Beyoncé has officially launched her highly anticipated haircare line Cécred. The mega-star has eight new haircare products in uniquely shaped bottles ready for purchase ranging from $30 USD to $52 USD, now available on the brands website. The line launched with a hydrating shampoo, clarifying shampoo and scalp scrub, treatment mask, hair oil, sealing lotion, fermented rice and rose protein treatment and a vessel to mix the protein treatment, all dubbed “The Foundation Collection.” It’s also important to note that these products are fragranced with oud, sandalwood, musk, jasmine and more.

Cécred aims to honor global beauty traditions through high-performance, expert backed products that’ll strengthen and moisturize fragile and brittle hair, according to a press release. Beyoncé revealed the meaning of the brands name in an interview with Essence, “I took the end of my name, Cé, and made it the beginning of the word sacred to create Cécred,” the singer said. “From my mother’s salon, daily rituals with my father, and years of experience in developing a hair care line, the journey has been just that: Cécred.”

Beyoncé originally took to Instagram to reveal the name and launch date of her latest beauty venture captioning the post, “Hair is sacred. The journey begins on February 20.”

In true Beyoncé fashion, the video included in the post featured throwback videos of what appears to be her walking through her mother’s salon as the camera zooms into the salon name on the wall, “Headliners Hair Salon,” the same name of her mother’s former salon. The video hones in on the sanctity of Black women’s experience in the salon by featuring different clips of Black women interacting with each other, getting their hair washed and styled, and showcasing different natural hair textures. Beyoncé herself even makes an appearance, getting her hair washed in the wash bowl. This imagery is fitting as the singer reveals how personal and impactful her own hair journey has been in creating these products in her interview with Essence stating, “I have many beautiful memories attached to my hair. The relationship we have with our hair is such a deeply personal journey. From spending my childhood in my mother’s salon to my father applying oil on my scalp to treat my psoriasis— these moments have been sacred to me.”

This is not the first time that Beyoncé has teased her forthcoming haircare line; last March, she took to Instagram to share a carousel post featuring an image of her styling her curls in the mirror with what appears to possibly be samples or tester products from her haircare line on the vanity, followed by a throwback image of young Beyoncé getting her hair braided and ending with a handwritten letter.

The letter details her personal relationship to beauty throughout her childhood and career; she wrote, “How many of ya’ll knew my first job was sweeping hair in my mama’s salon? Destiny’s Child got its start by performing for clients while they were getting their hair done. “I saw firsthand how the ways we nurture and celebrate hair can directly impact our souls. I watched her heal and be of service to so many women. Having learned so much on my hair journey, I’ve always dreamed of carrying on her legacy. I can’t wait for you to experience what I’ve been creating.”

Beyoncé has also revealed scholarships and grants for cosmetology students and salon owners as part of the launch of her haircare line and in collaboration with her Beygood public charity. According to the brands website, “an annual $500,000 will fund cosmetology school scholarships and salon business grants across five cities chosen for their large, diverse community of hair stylists: Atlanta, GA, Chicago, IL, Houston, TX, Los Angeles, CA, and Clementon, NJ.” This will be broken down into the “Cécred x BeyGOOD Student Scholarship” which grants 25 $10,000 financial aid student scholarships across 5 cosmetology schools with inclusive curriculums in target cities every year. As well as the “Cécred x BeyGOOD Salon Business Grant,” which grants 25 $10,000 awards to qualifying salon business owners showing financial need in the target cities so they can continue their transformative impact in the community.

Grab your card as Beyoncé is officially ready to snatch then nourish your edges as the products are now available on Cécred’s website.
