Ice Spice‘s new album Y2K! is sparking deep social media discourse from her fav bar “Miss Poopie” to current rap beef with Latto. Unfortunately for Spice, women on TikTok are struggling to look past her latest love triangle with U.K. rapper, Central Cee.

When she first hit the industry, she notoriously told Variety, “People want to be all ‘I’m a girl’s girl,’ but then behind the scenes being b-tches,” Ice Spice said. The moment went viral but to be clear, she was advocating for rap beef in the industry as a method for healthy competition. “It is a competition at the end of the day.” Her latest move, however, may have strayed too far from the plot.

If you’re new to the term “girl’s girl,” the term has existed just as long as “girl code.” A set of rules we all abide by in the name of friendship. The term was popularized on the hit dating series Love Island and Love Island: USA. In the U.S., Love Island has recently ended with PPG, the PowerPuff Girls, Serena, Leah and Ja’Na, being the “true” winners for many. Do you see why Spice’s PR timing was horrendous?

The love triangle kicked off when Spice posted a subtle Instagram story with her location marked as the U.K., and Cee immediately matched her energy. It was only a matter of time before fans of Cee’s girlfriend, Madeline Argy, urged for a check-in as the famous rapper was now with her man. “I was with you guys knees deep in that comment section asking if we were still together,” she joked. “I tried to have a conversation with him, but all he kept saying was, ‘Alright.’”

The drama ramped up, and a few days later, she posted “me rn” in a gun shop. Ice Spice posted a picture of herself with the “Gen Z Luv” rapper and caption, “Aint tripping the grip in my purse,” from their single “Did It First.”

Many suspected that the relationship was a PR move meant to build hype. But given the importance of girl code, fans were not impressed. So, when the Bronx rapper’s album dropped, fans weren’t eager to tune in – and stated girlhood as a reason. In fact, the discourse sparked the trend below.
