Doechii's Rhinestone Face Tape Is Just the Beginning of Her Beauty Evolution
The Grammy-winning rapper’s makeup artist Dee Carrion breaks down her Grammys look, her favorite products and her creative process.
By now, we can all agree that wherever Doechii goes, she’s a vision from head to toe. From her flawless makeup to her standout fits, she and her team’s attention to detail showcases a deep dedication to her craft. For them, it’s not just about looking good; it’s about knowing that every element must come together to create a complete image. Together, they transport her audience into the world of our favorite swamp princess.
Post Grammy Awards, we spoke with her makeup artist, Dee Carrion, to get the inside scoop on how they ideate her beauty looks, the products that help bring her glam to life and of course, her love of face tape.
On why Doechii loves face tape
We loved the idea of exposing something that’s usually supposed to be hidden. In the beginning, we were using them because we loved the editorial look it gave and from then on we wanted to begin incorporating them into her regular style. I began thinking of ways to elevate and bring a unique style to them. The Grammy rhinestone tapes were just the beginning.
On how the duo craft their beauty looks
Usually, it starts with what she’s wearing and the mood board or deck. Then, from there, I’ll gather inspiration and start digitally sketching looks for her. After, I’ll present them and we’ll discuss which looks go with what outfit.

On how the look came together
This was truly an almost two-month process. We were all talking concepts and ideas for so long. Malcolm Marquez (her hair artist), Sam Woolf (her stylist) and I would have hours-long calls discussing ideas and looks. We truly wanted this to be jaw-dropping. When I found out that she had decided to go with Thom Browne, I began sketching looks. Some were more glam, some more editorial. Something that we’re big on as a team is balancing her outfit and hair.
These were such big moments for the Grammy Awards and I didn’t want it to become too busy with the makeup. Doechii and I ultimately decided on this soft, grey, sparkly glam. We loved the idea of it being a little monochromatic and we included eye contacts in this grey-brown color and it tied it in.
On Doechii’s favorite products
She’s a fan of The Ordinary’s Saccharomyces Ferment 30% Milky Toner. We used it for our Grammys prep and it creates such a beautiful glow. She also loves the Mehron Barrier Spray — she calls it “the cement.”
On how to recreate Doechii’s Grammys makeup
For this Grammy glam, I used the Urban Decay “Face Bond” Self-Setting Waterproof Foundation and the “Quickie” Full Coverage Concealer for a long-wear base. To add back some luminosity, I layered the “Face Bond” Luminizer in “High Profile” and “Half Baked” to add a gorgeous glow to her cheekbones. On her eyes, I used the “Naked2” Eyeshadow Palette to create this stunning look. To add even more definition and dimension, I tight-lined with the “24/7” Waterline Eye Pencils in “Legend” and “Tootsie.”
For last touches and an extra long-lasting finish, I opted for the “All-Nighter” Setting Spray and the “All Nighter” Extra Glow Setting Spray.

How to prep your skin for long-wear makeup
For skin prep, Carrion began by using The Ordinary’s Saccharomyces Ferment 30% Milky Toner to create a smooth, glowing foundation. Then, she applied the “Squalane + Amino Acids” Hydrating Lip Balm to the lips for moisture and softness. To balance Doechii’s skin tone and enhance hydration, she gently massaged the “Soothing Barrier Support” Serum into your face.
Next, she followed up with the “Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides” Serum to seal in moisture and provide lasting nourishment. Finally, Carrion finished with the “Multi-Peptide” Eye Serum to revitalize the under-eye area, leaving it refreshed and ready.
