Throw away your expired makeup and declutter your beauty vanity — for good.
Every beauty enthusiast reaches a point where it’s time to hit the reset button and reorganize. For many, that moment comes during spring — a season of renewal and fresh beginnings. Let’s be honest: we all hold onto products lingering in our stash that are past their prime. This annual period of cleaning is the perfect opportunity to refresh, declutter and get your beauty products in order.
Whether your stuff is overflowing or you’re just looking to simplify your routine, the secret to an organized space for haircare, makeup, skincare and nail polish lies in intentional, thoughtful organization. If you’re ready to bring some much-needed order to the chaos, we’ve got you covered.

Sort your items into categories
To get your beauty products organized, first sort them into categories. Then, designate a certain shelf or drawer for each of these categories. “This will keep your items visible and easily accessible,” says Christina Giaquinto, professional organizer at Modular Closets.
Store your beauty tools like eyelash curlers, tweezers or sponges in a separate container so they don’t get mixed in with all of your other bathroom toiletries. “This will help streamline your beauty routine,” recommends Moshe Halberstam, interior designer at Vänt Upholstered Wall Panels.
Reduce clutter
Remember to do a regular decluttering purge to get rid of empty bottles or expired products — this is something you can do more than once a year. Check on expired products and make sure everything you own is still good to use. “Reduce clutter by consolidating your makeup products into one makeup palette,” proposes Giaquinto. A custom makeup palette can store all of your eyeshadows, blushes, and highlighters in one place.

Keep your vanity organized
“Keep your vanity organized and neat by incorporating pull-out trays and clear organizers for makeup, hair accessories and more,” states Giaquinto. “Keep the countertop clear and tidy by only storing daily essentials on it.”
“No more reaching inside a drawer to find that missing eyeliner,” says Amy Dong, interior designer at IKEA. She recommends items like jars for storage. This type of system keeps all your makeup brushes and lipsticks organized, making it easier to find your products. “This will keep all your smaller items organized and easy to find. From makeup sponges to reusable cotton pads, you’ll have everything you need within reach.”
Halberstam suggests creating a skincare routine station on a designated shelf or in a specific drawer to make things quick and simple for your bathroom time in the mornings or evenings. “Keep your daily moisturizers, face wash or eye creams in this station. This will streamline your daily routine.”
Quintano favors storing products on shelves and in drawers by the frequency that you use them. For example, you can store daily foundations and powders at the front of a shelf or in the highest drawer and items like costume makeup in the back of a shelf or the lowest drawer.
Maximize your storage space
It is so easy for countertops to get cluttered with makeup and other beauty items, so maximize your vertical storage space. “Wall-mounted shelves can keep products off your countertop and easily accessible,” says Halberstam. You could also invest in a quality beauty product tower, like one that rotates for easy access. “This will allow you to easily see and access the product you need at a moment’s notice,” informs Quintano.
A dual desktop shelf keeps your desk or vanity organized while offering you more worktop space, leveling up your skincare storage game. “Perfect for organizing your skincare products and accessories, you’ll be able to breeze from toner to moisturizer before your next online meeting,” states Dong.

Make sure everything is easy to grab or portable
“Make every night self-care night,” says Dong. Store all your sheet masks, scrubs and bath bombs in one convenient place by putting items into a box or tray that can be transported with ease. You can stack multiple boxes to adapt to your storage needs, taking them out at your convenience.
