Olandria Carthen and Painted By Esther Team up With MAC Cosmetics
For the brand’s newest MACzine.
MAC Cosmetics has unveiled the May issue of its MACzine. Harping on the theme of blush, the brand tapped Olandria Carthen to be its newest cover star. For the glam, makeup artist Painted By Esther executed Carthen’s full face of MAC glam — featuring her signature gradient blush technique, in honor of the new Skinfinish Colourstruck Blush.
Given her role as a key innovator in the beauty world, the MACzine delves into Painted By Esther’s beauty philosophy as well as her ability to redefine the way we see blush. “My goal is always to bring out the glow from within and never let makeup mask the person underneath,” the makeup artist says. “I want inner beauty to shine through in its most elevated form while celebrating every shade, feature and expression of Black women.”

As a long-time client of Painted By Esther, Olandria Carthen says blush has become a major part of her signature beauty aesthetic. “I truly feel like [blush] brings out my features and I really want a lot of women with deep, dark skin tones to not be scared to put blush on. It’s beautiful and it highlights our beauty that we already have within,” she says. Given Painted By Esther’s undeniable influence on the makeup community, the zine hopes to further spotlight how Black beauty continues to shape trends.
