SZA and Dua Lipa Cover the Latest Issue of 'V Magazine'

Interviewed by Katy Perry and Jada Pinkett Smith.

For its anticipated music issue, V Magazine has tapped two of the biggest stars in the industry as of right now; SZA and Dua Lipa for in-depth interviews focusing on everything from career and relationships, to weird superstitions.

Grammy nominated SZA sat down with no other than Jada Pinkett Smith for an interview, looking into everything from how her life has changed in the past few years, to her relationship with her mom and going through bullying in school. “My mom said I was born serious as hell. I don’t know what that means, but I went through a lot of bullying and ostracizing in school, so it was hard for me to connect with anyone,” said the “Love Galore” singer, adding, “When I got older, I realized, Oh shit, the whole world is wrong and my mom is right.” The interview concluded with Smith stating that “you’re coming into yourself, you’re standing strong. It’s tough. It’s a beautiful thing. I’m always here for you, mama. I love you.”

Dua Lipa, the British singer who has taken the world by storm with hits like “IDGAF” and “New Rules,” was interviewed by Katy Perry for the May issue. The two spoke about Dua’s decision to not go to University, as well as her many superstitions that includes never cheersing before a show. “I’m really superstitious. First I’ll warm up, drink lots of tea, hang out with my band. If people in the room have anything in their cups, they aren’t allowed to cheers,” said the singer, adding that the one time her band did so in Stockholm, the whole show went wrong. The two also discussed the time Dua Lipa went on stage at Katy Perry’s concert at the age of 15, as well as how important it is to back other women in the industry. “It’s nice to come together with other girls in the industry. It’s interesting to see people just hanging out. For so many years, the media has kind of pitted girls against each other. From so early on, I’ve dealt with some people not being nice, or not being too happy about my success. That sometimes comes with the territory,” Dua says, adding that she has been lucky when it comes to meeting people.
