Lauren Tsai Is a Vintage Darling in Our SS18 "In Bloom" Editorial
Featuring one-of-a-kind pieces from Varsity Los Angeles.
Forever infatuated with the ’80s and ’90s, this season we’re tapping Tokyo-based model and illustrator Lauren Tsai to front our vintage-heavy editorial. Entitled “In Bloom,” our exclusive Spring/Summer 2018 fashion story styled by Tim Coleman highlights a range of rare pieces from Los Angeles boutique Varsity, which is well-known for its huge selection of vintage clothing.
In the imagery shot on film by photographer Ja Tecson, the multitalented creative is seen mixing and matching contemporary and old pieces. The first look in particular features an archival COMME des GARÇONS zip jacket with an off-beat, asymmetrical design, paired with some statement-making, camouflage military training pants, a Stussy Women beret and Tyler, The Creator‘s GOLF Le FLEUR* One Star “Mono” on her feet.
Lauren then switched things up by slipping into something cleaner — a vintage, all-white Esprit jumpsuit from the 1980s, worn with a baby doll T-shirt printed with graphics from the cult classic Tank Girl comics. Footwear and accessories are also on-point, featuring Nike‘s popular Air Force 1 “JESTER XX” as well as AMBUSH‘s silver-tone, barbed wire necklace.
The final ensemble is built around a long-sleeved sweater emblazoned with a print from English band Portishead‘s Dummy era. This experimental look is completed with a pair of skinny blank pants and Dr. Martens, and tied together with a casual, cinch-sleeve vest. Scroll through above to check out the different moods evoked by the outfits.
