Parisian fashion house Maison Margiela has just announced its latest footwear addition, revealing the bold and chunky Retro Fit sneaker. Crafted from house codes established by creative director John Galliano, the name of the shoe itself is an indication of retrospect, with the themes inspiring it being time and recollection. “The memory of the authentic sneaker, the distressed elegance invoked by erosion, and the idea of proposing a relaxed glamour for a new age of culture clash,” said the label about the chunky trainer.
Combining futuristic design with sportswear nostalgia, the elevated sneakers feature over-sized soles as well as a layered upper featuring panels, Velcro straps and lacing. Arriving in both a high and a low-top design, the new Retro Fit sneaker explores a new dimension of fashion. If you’re looking to get your hands on the statement shoes, they will be available at Maison Margiela Tokyo from August 20 to 28, as well as worldwide starting early September. The black and white low top sneaker is also now available at stores across the U.S. Peep the Retro Fit sneaker in the gallery above, and let us know if you’d cop or drop.
