Maison Margiela Dropped a Psychological Thriller for FW26
Releasing “ANONYMITY,” inspired by the brand’s longstanding exploration of hidden identity.
Who are you when no one can see your face? Maison Margiela explores the question in “ANONYMITY,” a psychological-thriller-inspired campaign starring Rebecca Hall for Fall/Winter 2026. Playing an actress who comes face to face with her own masked double, Hall finds herself caught between reality, performance and the shifting nature of identity.
Directed as a fictional film, the campaign follows Hall as an actress preparing for a role, only to repeatedly encounter her masked double. With each appearance, the doppelganger wears a different Artisanal mask created in Maison Margiela’s atelier, blurring the line between reality and performance.
The uncanny campaign takes cues from the house’s FW26 show in Shanghai, where masked models emerged from a runway built from stacked shipping containers, dressed in pieces inspired by Parisian flea-market finds. Masks have long been central to Maison Margiela’s visual language, first appearing in the house’s debut show as a way of shifting focus away from the model and onto the clothes.
The collection itself continues that spirit of deconstruction, with Edwardian silhouettes, destroyed tapestries, fused garments and second-skin pieces. Accessories include the new Link bag and tapestry-covered Tabi shoes. “ANONYMITY” arrived ahead of the collection’s September 9 release, so head to the brand’s website to take a look.
