Acne Studios' FW19 Show Presents a Youthful Take on Power Dressing
We headed backstage for a close-up look at the collection.
For Fall/Winter 2019, Acne Studios creative director Jonny Johansson has tasked himself with reinterpreting classic, formal womenswear for the youth. “Young people want to look mature and sophisticated, yet still be young,” the designer is quoted. “I wanted to take strong womenswear codes and see them through disruptive eyes.”
The collection, which debuted at Palais de Tokyo in Paris over the weekend, is filled with unexpected details that summon your attention. Oversized blazers are perfectly cinched at the waist, while pleated skirts take on a new form with asymmetrical hemlines. Square-shaped bralettes and cropped sweaters, layered with statement outerwear like a high-collar leather jacket and a furry wrap coat, further contribute to the unorthodox theme of the collection.
From laptop-friendly bags and futuristic sunglasses, to hand-draped tights and gloves with finger holes — a design that most technology-obsessed young professionals will probably appreciate – the accessories give an eccentric final touch to the office-appropriate looks. Also worthy of a double-take is the footwear, which comes in an assortment of hiking-inspired boots and sleek heels.
