A$AP Bari Pleads Guilty to One Count of Sexual Assault
The news emerges after his first day of trial in London.
A$AP Bari‘s sexual assault trial has begun in London, with the New York-based designer pleading guilty to one charge. The charges are part of a leaked video from July 2017, in which A$AP Bari allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at a hotel in London.
After this incident, Bari officially released a statement, describing the video as “misleading” and added that he has “resolved this issue amicably among all parties as adults.” Recently Bari countersued the woman for “defamation and civil extortion for allegedly pressuring him into settling.” Prior to today’s guilty plea, he had been expected to deny both charges.
UK-based newspaper, Daily Mirror reports that Bari’s guilty plea means he will avoid jail time. Bari was ordered to pay a fine of £4,500 GBP (approx. $5,600 USD) in addition to compensation of £2,500 GBP (approx. $3,150 USD) to the victim.
Bari is known by many as a founding member of A$AP Mob; he has built a cult following after the launch of his fashion brand, VLONE. In the past, the brand presented at Paris Fashion Week and debuted a Nike Air Force 1 collaboration in 2017. Nike discontinued its relationship with VLONE and the designer after the aforementioned video.
