Lauren Halsey's New Nike Air Force 1 Celebrates Her South Los Angeles Community
The artist examines her South Los Angeles roots with the collaboration.
Nike has tapped rising artist Lauren Halsey to re-design the Air Force 1 High in a project dubbed AF-1 ALL FOR 1. Known for her examination of Black culture in Los Angeles, the artist reimagines the iconic Air Force 1 in “Triple Black,” adding a series of punchy detailing to the otherwise classic shoe.
Inspired by the South Central neighborhood Halsey grew up in, the shoe features clear, PVC straps, a shiny patent Swoosh and mismatched red and green laces. Text reading ““NEIGHBORHOOD,” “AUTONOMY” and “PRIDE” appear on the tongue, while “SUMMAEVERYTHANG” circles the heel. No area of the design goes untouched including the insole, which is printed with a kaleidoscopic of graphics.
Lauren Halsey and Nike’s Air Force 1 AF-1 ALL FOR 1 releases on the Nike website, SNKRS and at select Los Angeles retail locations starting December 7.
